UV Editing and Unwrapping in Cinema 4D offers a comprehensive toolkit to create clean, distortion-free UV maps essential for texture painting, baking, and rendering workflows. These tools are widely used in game development, product visualization, and VFX pipelines.

UV Edit Workspace

The UV Edit layout is a dedicated workspace that allows manipulation of UVs across multiple objects or tags. It synchronizes selection between the UV Editor and 3D viewport, supporting point, edge, and polygon modes for precise control.

UV Unwrap

UV Unwrap automates seam detection, applies the ABF algorithm for unwrapping, relaxes UVs, and aligns islands. This tool works well for both organic and mechanical models, simplifying the UV setup process.

Relax UV

The Relax UV tool smooths and evenly distributes UV points to reduce texture stretching and maintain consistent texel density. It offers ABF and LSCM algorithm choices depending on the model.

UV Peeler

The UV Peeler tool is optimized for cylindrical or tube-like geometry, allowing seam definition and controlled linear unwrapping—ideal for tentacles, arms, cables, and similar shapes.

Projection Methods

Cinema 4D supports multiple projection types including flat, frontal, spherical, cubic, and shrink-wrap. The UVW from Projection feature applies projection-based mapping quickly without manual tag setup.

UV Packing

The Pack UV command arranges UV islands inside the 0–1 UV space using Bounding Box, Geometric, or Rasterized modes. It offers scale equalization, margin control, and overlap prevention through customizable settings.

Alignment and Rectangularization

Cinema 4D provides tools to straighten, align, and convert UV islands into rectangular layouts, especially useful for hard-surface workflows requiring clean, efficient UVs.

UDIM and Multi-Tile UV Support

UDIM workflows are supported, allowing UV islands to be spread across multiple tiles for high-resolution texturing, essential in film and high-end rendering pipelines. While UDIM painting isn’t supported in BodyPaint, layout and baking are fully compatible.

UV Pins

UV Pins enable locking specific UV points during unwrapping or relaxing, preserving critical areas of your UV layout while allowing adjustments elsewhere.

Summary

Cinema 4D 2025 offers a powerful and flexible UV workflow featuring:

  • Streamlined UV unwrapping and relaxation
  • Advanced packing and alignment tools
  • UDIM multi-tile compatibility
  • Manual and automated UV layout methods
  • Optimized workflows for hard-surface and organic models

These tools support modern texturing workflows for animation, VFX, and real-time 3D content creation.
